BACKSTORY THEATRE ACADEMY (BSTA)
As a non-profit, BackStory has been significantly impacted by COVID19. Your registration keeps teachers employed and provides critical revenue to cover fixed expenses, like our studio space. From one day technique workshops to multi-week mini-classes, preschool programs, and performance classes for ages 5-18: we've got something for everyone!
Winter 2021 classes will be offered in two formats:
ONLINE Zoom classes have kids get up to MOVE, create, and play interactively! Performance classes use modified scripts designed to be performed online and feature a recorded show on the last day of class.
IN PERSON classes feature small class sizes, distanced floor spacing and blocking, mask-wearing for all staff and participants, and lots of cleaning! We have a special air purifier in our main studio room and any costumes or props used for the session will be stored in personalized bins for each actor.
What have we heard from parents about our online programming?
"I wanted to let you know how wonderful Mr. Adams has been and how much fun our daughter had! We are so excited to have found Backstory and we sincerely hope we get to work with Mr. Adams again. We will definitely be back for more theater as soon as possible. Thank you both for all your hard work and creativity in the midst of this global pandemic. It has been a bright spot for her day, and that means the world to us."
"Thank you! This was the highlight of my daughter's day! "
"Ms. Felicia,I just wanted to let you know that my child adores you and loves your class on Thursdays at 1:30. She asks about it all week and I think she likes it even more than her dance class (which is a huge compliment!). I see that she is really expressing herself. Thanks for brightening her day!"
Thank you for working so diligently, and putting so much thought and care to come up with an alternate performance option for this group! We really appreciate it."

BackStory Theatre Academy's fantastic performance-based programs build skills for performance, confidence, team work, and key STEAM learning skills such as active listening, working memory, and creative collaboration! During this unprecedented time of stay at home orders, social distancing for safety, and rapidly changing information, we are continually revising our usual programming. With shorter session times, small class sizes, and showcase performances during the last class or on special recording days, we are keeping theatre alive and thriving for our students! These changes allow us to deliver the high quality content we promise while remaining flexible to offer each class either online or in-person depending on state and local recommendations.
While several classes are currently listed as studio-based, they will be moved onto a Zoom platform as necessary. We continue to work closely with Broomfield Public Health to determine best practices for safety for our particular program model. During the level RED COVID orders, studio capacity is capped at 25% or 25 people but we've chosen to cap classes at 8 students and 1 staff member to ensure maximum distancing possible. Masks will be worn at all times until Public Health advises otherwise. Final performances will be professionally recorded at the Broomfield Auditorium; no audience members will be allowed in the auditorium while in RED COVID level. (updated 12/11/20)
