COVID19 has presented our community with unexpected challenges and opportunities. BackStory Theatre is committed to rising to those challenges and creating space both online and in-studio for creativity, confidence-building, and joy! Protocols for in-studio teaching will include the following:
1) All students will be asked to wear a mask when indoors, where appropriate distancing is made possible by outdoor activities, masks may be removed; 2) Parents will need to drop and go – we’ll meet students outside before class to take their temperature and ask about symptoms and recent exposure – parents may leave after receiving a “thumbs up” from the teacher; 3) Students may not attend class if they or anyone in their household has been experiencing symptoms of illness in the past 24 hours or directly exposed to someone with COVID19 within the past two weeks; 4) Social distancing guidelines will be indicated on the floors throughout the studio and should be observed; 5) All surfaces and studio spaces will be cleaned between classes; 6) We ask students to plan restroom use to avoid unnecessary bathroom visits at the studio – they will be cleaned between each use; 7) No food in the studios, students may provide their own water bottle; 8) We will not be using costumes, limited props will be single-person use and cleaned after every class. Thank you for your cooperation with these guidelines to keep our studio space safe. Attending in-person classes currently carries some risk; we commit to do our part to adhere to all state and local public health guidelines while maintaining an environment of exploration, fun, and creativity.

What have we heard from parents about our online programming?
"I wanted to let you know how wonderful Mr. Adams has been and how much fun our daughter had! We are so excited to have found Backstory and we sincerely hope we get to work with Mr. Adams again. We will definitely be back for more theater as soon as possible. Thank you both for all your hard work and creativity in the midst of this global pandemic. It has been a bright spot for her day, and that means the world to us."
"Thank you! This was the highlight of my daughter's day! "
"Ms. Felicia,I just wanted to let you know that my child adores you and loves your class on Thursdays at 1:30. She asks about it all week and I think she likes it even more than her dance class (which is a huge compliment!). I see that she is really expressing herself. Thanks for brightening her day!"
Thank you for working so diligently, and putting so much thought and care to come up with an alternate performance option for this group! We really appreciate it."

BackStory Theatre Academy's fantastic performance-based programs build skills for performance, confidence, team work, and key STEAM learning skills such as active listening, working memory, and creative collaboration! During this unprecedented time of stay at home orders, social distancing for safety, and rapidly changing information, we are revising our usual summer programming. With shorter session times each day, small class sizes, and showcase performances during the last class. These changes will allow us to deliver the high quality content we promise while remaining flexible to offer each class either online or in-person depending on state and local recommendations.
While classes are currently listed as studio-based, they will be moved onto a Zoom platform as necessary. JUNE and JULY 6-10 CLASSES WILL BE TAUGHT ONLINE. Typically, summer performance classes for ages 9-13 are taught by teams of teens from our Youth Leadership Program (BYLP) and overseen by a staff mentor. This summer, our staff instructors will take the lead with lots of input and assistance from the teens for this age group! While teens are learning hands-on skills for teaching, directing, and producing shows - their students grow from mentorship, literacy in action with script-writing, and build strong bonds through creation of their very own show. At the end of the week, the cast will showcase their short play in one of three formats as available: 1) In studio with audience, 2) recorded in studio with no audience, or 3) presented live or recorded via Zoom. Our usual public audience performances at the Broomfield Auditorium have been cancelled through August by the facility.
AGES 9-13: SHOW TITLE IS DETERMINED DURING THE WEEK OF CAMP IN COLLABORATION WITH CAMPERS AND MENTORS! Students are encouraged to bring international story ideas on the first day of class.
AGES 3-8: CLASS THEMES ARE BASED ON SPECIFIC BOOKS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO AMEND OR BRANCH OUT TO INCLUDE MULTIPLE CHARACTERS AND IDEAS
